Trident Services:
Services: Storage Management
TRIDENT Services staff members have assisted numerous clients with the many
issues which arise in dealing with today's complex and rapidly evolving enterprise server
storage technologies. Many TRIDENT Services projects have been involved with
assisting clients in planning, implementing and tuning their DFSMS environments.
Planning projects have included reviewing business requirements; defining data
requirements; establishing dataset naming conventions and standards; assigning data,
management and storage classes; and, preparation of full detailed implementation
plans.
Implementation projects have included defining and implementing DASD pooling;
installing and tuning DFSMShsm; implementing other pieces of the DFSMS product suite;
and, conversion of current DASD to DFSMS format volumes. Because of the experience
level of TRIDENT Services staff members the time to effectively implement full and
productive DFSMS operations can be greatly reduced.
Tuning projects have included numerous analyses of the SMF data produced by
DFSMShsm as reported by TRIDENT Service's proprietary HSM Reports software. These
analyses have pinpointed specific ways in which clients can eliminate wasteful data
migration and recall patterns; eliminate costly error processing; as well as,
recovering the use of large amounts of storage through the use of TRIDENT Service's
proprietary HSM Optimizer software. TRIDENT Service's proprietary HSM Reports
software has also been highly useful to clients in setting and adjusting their ACS
routines and other DFSMS constructs.
Whether you are an DFSMS user or not, TRIDENT Services provides storage usage and
analysis services which invariably define ways to reclaim a minimum of 10 percent of
your existing DASD resources and restore them to productive use. These services are
provided for a fixed fee and include data collection at your site, a written analysis
of our findings and specific recommendations for improved performance. Staff training
and implementation of recommendations can also be provided if desired.
